I am Robin Fredey. In second grade, I drew a picture of Abraham Lincoln and won a contest against the entire school. I have identified as an artist ever since. My life has been spent near beaches and on tropical islands in the Caribbean. My first and most beloved beach is a small beach not easily found on Cape Cod, fondly called The Little Beach. That pocket of sand, locked between the sea, rocks and salty rosehips hold countless memories, emotions and a lasting connection to the mysteries of nature, dreams and the rhythms of life as told by the sound of waves, wind and birdsong. My art reflects the expression of emotions and wonder that are ignited within by the ocean, wild beaches, and the colorful abundance of life in and around beaches and coastal environments wherever I find myself. It is the presence that is just out of reach but so much felt, that is my subject in my art.
My art extends to both two and three dimensional visual work, the culinary arts, and writing. I care deeply about honoring and preserving the natural world and nuances of culture. I strive to express the beauty of the living planet and the awe inspiring diversity of people and culture through my art. Especially Caribbean people, with whom I was blessed to live alongside for 35 years on the island of St. Thomas.
My unique style of prints grew out of the studio practice of assemblage, paper collaging and painting combined with my digital skills developed as a graphic designer, to create the arresting fresh images that speak about the vibrant and colorful world, its people, and the planet as a source of nourishment for the body and soul. I hope my work connects with you in the intangible way that only art can deliver.
